Continuing on with the fertility conversation, I w Continuing on with the fertility conversation, I wanted to share the pregnancy visualization practice I did before I fell asleep each night, in case it’s helpful for anyone else. I adopted this practice when we were trying to get pregnant with our first child and did it again this last round. The actual visual could look different for everyone but this particular scene helped me fall asleep feeling so comforted, positive and protected. We are huge proponents of using visualization practice for anything we are wanting to experience in our lives, and pregnancy is no exception. 🥰

Sharing two food product “supplements” that my Sharing two food product “supplements” that my husband and I each took last summer when trying to get pregnant with baby #2 (currently pregnant and due end of May!). These were one piece of a bigger approach we took to optimize fertility, and I definitely believe it helped! When we started trying last summer, my cycle hadn’t actually returned yet since having my son, which my doctor and I attributed to the fact that he was still breastfeeding. 

I started taking the FEM product the first week of August to support my reproductive system in case there was anything else going on that was possibly affecting my cycle. We found out we were pregnant the last week of September. 

Coincidence or connected? Not sure, but these products support the reproductive system in any stage of life, not just for the childbearing years (ladies - think regulating irregular cycles, hormone balance, menopause, etc.). You can get MOFO on Amazon, but FEM can only be purchased from the @ancestralsupplements website. 

Right now, the AS website is offering a free bottle of tallow capsules when you buy both the FEM and MOFO products (or two of one of those). It may have taken me a full month of listening to It may have taken me a full month of listening to 20-min chunks on 1.5x speed, but I finally finished the 4.5-hour long podcast on male and female fertility by @hubermanlab. All I can say is, men - there’s a lot YOU can be doing to support conception if pregnancy is the goal. 📣😅

Here were the top takeaways I got from the episode. You can visit the episode page to find time stamps for these various points and listen to the science behind them. The entire podcast is super fascinating because Huberman goes in-depth to how fertility and conception actually work. He gives some other suggestions for when to seek fertility help as well, based on age and situation, which I didn’t include here.

Nutrition preparation wasn’t covered in this podcast but that’s definitely something that should be focused on starting at least 6 months before you wish to conceive. That’s for both women AND men.

I started having all-day/all-night nausea at 5 wee I started having all-day/all-night nausea at 5 weeks this pregnancy. Much worse than my first pregnancy! After a rough five weeks, I started researching the commonly prescribed meds for pregnancy nausea and learned that some women see improvement just by taking higher doses of vitamin B6. I decided to give it a shot and it worked amazingly for me! I took 25mg of B6 three times a day and it kept the nausea at bay (it went away completely around 14 weeks). I wanted to share this with others who are hoping to avoid medications for pregnancy nausea, in case it helps you, too!

One of them is ensuring I am eating prebiotic foods to feed my probiotic foods. This helps grow the good bacteria in my gut so that it does its job and also kill off the bad bacteria. Great prebiotic foods that I’m focusing on are:
- Berries
- Apples
- Soaked chia seeds 
- Green bananas
- Cooked and cooked potatoes eaten cold or slightly heated 
- Cacao powder

While there are countless highlights and beautiful While there are countless highlights and beautiful things about pregnancy, there are also discomforts we mamas have to deal with, too. Morning (ahem, all day) sickness has to be one of the worst ones! I am grateful that my nausea subsided shortly after the first trimester, but I was pretty miserable during the time. It was so tough to eat a high quality diet and have the energy to chase around my 3-year-old. Thankfully I had a lot of help when I needed it! 

After having just dealt with it recently, I continue to think of all the ladies whose nausea is STILL there even after the first trimester…or those who have to deal with it throughout their entire pregnancy…or those who have hyperemesis gravidarum. I understand how hard it is just to get through a single day, and the guilt that can arise when you can’t eat some of the nutritious foods you want. You are a warrior for what you are battling each day for your baby! If you’re in the thick of it, comment and let us know so that we can pray for you and send positive thoughts your way!

Here’s how I approach my omega-3 fatty acid inta Here’s how I approach my omega-3 fatty acid intake. I’m not a medical professional and this is not medical advice, it’s just what I aim for based on the research I’ve done over the years on adult needs for this essential nutrient and also for optimal fetal development. Omega-3 fatty acids help reduce inflammation and support brain and eye health. Eating fatty fish 2-3x per week is a great starting place to work towards for people who wonder if they’re getting enough DHA & EPA!

Also, I had a heck of a time eating fish in the first trimester but was able to continue taking my @ancestralsupplements fish egg capsules at least. Pregnancy definitely requires giving yourself grace with food aversions, continuously trying new ways to get the nutrition you seek if you can’t eat your normal foods and also testing out your aversions every once in a while to see if you can stomach them again. I didn’t think I could eat sardines again because the thought of them made my stomach turn, but I am actually able to eat them again now. It’s just a mental block at this point and I can get past it, thankfully!
